A new food bank that plans to collect somewhere in Pembrokeshire every day of the week has just been launched in the county.

The Pembrokeshire Foodbank has been set up by Grace Church in Narberth, which will host the main distribution centre in its headquarters in the town's old Courthouse.

Other satellite foodbanks will open in the new year, with the first in the St Giles Church Centre in Letterston being followed by one in Haverfordwest.

The senior minister of Grace Church, Paul Dando, said: "Grace Church reaches out to the community in three ways - as welkl as running Liberty Cafe in the Courthouse, we produce Breeze magazine and now, we are delighted to be launching Pembrokeshire Foodbank."

Simon Hart MP met food bank volunteers and manager Tirzah Redman on Saturday, where he was shown the food bank storeroom and was keen to show his support.

Another church in Pembrokeshire is also backing a foodbank which serves local people.

New Life Christian Fellowship, which meets regularly in Kilgetty, now has two members who have signed up as volunteers with the Trussell Trust, which runs Carmarthen Food Bank.

Rhonwen Evans and Jo-dee Sutton will be arranging food collections and are able to issue food vouchers or emergency parcels, following assessments.

The food bank in Carmarthen is open on Mondays and Tuesdays, when voucher holders are able to visit to collect their food. Lifts are made available.

Said Jo-Dee: "As a fellowship, we are deeply concerned about the gwrowing number of people who, for various reasons, are facing serious food poverty," said Jo-dee. "Anyone in a crisis can either come along to Kilgetty Community Centre after the New Life Christian Fellowship Church meetings between 12.30pm-1.30pm on Sundays, or can contact me directly on 07748401564."

The church will also hold a food collection point in the centre after meetings, and hope that shops in Kilgetty will also consider hosting food collection points.

New Life has tickets for a free Christmas lunch in a church in Carmarthen, and anyone from Kilgetty who would like to attend would be able to have a lift there on Christmas Day.
