FAMILIES are being advised to be careful what they do with their post-Christmas rubbish.
Police are urging people to not stack empty boxes outside their homes, as it can be a signal for thieves of the 'goodies inside'.
“After Christmas don’t stack empty boxes outside your home,” said PC Rob Chapman from the community safety department. “Don’t put packaging from valuable items out on show for everyone to see what’s in your home.
“Keep them indoors until the morning of your local refuse and recycling collection.
“It’s also important to remember to register your valuables. A few years ago we encouraged people to post mark their property. This is the 21st century equivalent. You can go online to the website www.immobilise.com and register your valuables.”
