Strong winds are expected today with gusts of 80 to 100mph on the coast.

The Met Office has upgraded it's wind warning to a red 'take action' with the biggest gusts on the north and west Wales coast.

Tenby's Greenhill School will close at 1pm because of the high winds. Children can be collected from noon and school buses will leave at 1pm.

The chief forecaster’s statement says: “Parts of western England, Wales and northern England will bear the brunt as the wind veers west to south-westerly this afternoon with gusts of 60-70 mph widely, and gusts of 80-90 mph along some coasts of north and west Wales.”

There are warnings that there is the potential for disruption to transports and power supplies as well as large waves affecting the coasts.

A yellow ‘be aware’ warning for heavy rain has also been issued.

This afternoon’s Stena Line ferry from Fishguard has been cancelled.

There are reports of trees down at New Road, Hook, with the road partially blocking the road and at Middle Street, Rosemarket.

A garage roof has been blown off in the wind at Vergam Terrace, Fishguard and there are trees down between Llangwm and Troopers Inn blocking the road. The road is due to be shut all day.

Trees are also down on the A477 Amroth Road and there is flooding on the A487 from Newport to Llwyngwair.
