Council must save £12.9million in 2014 financial year

PEMBROKESHIRE County Council (PCC) must deliver cost reductions of £12.9million in the 2014/15 financial year, but our council tax is set to remain the lowest in Wales.

At a cabinet meeting last week, councillors moved to approve the authority’s cost-cutting budget proposals for 2014. An agenda for the meeting said the budget “has been developed against the backdrop of the most difficult financial settlement since the council’s inception in 1996”.

PCCs initial target was to save £7million between 2014 and 2016. As a direct consequence of the loss of grant from the Welsh Government, savings over that period must now total £20million.

The council is still waiting to hear if further grant cuts are coming.

Cost reductions of £7.1million are currently required for 2015/16, although that figure is subject to change until settlement figures from the Welsh Government, which cannot be guaranteed at this stage, are confirmed.

In April, council tax for a band D property will rise from £741.17 per year to £766.55, an increase of £25.38, or 3.4%.

Leader, Councillor Jamie Adams, said: “Council tax in Pembrokeshire remains by far the lowest in Wales, and I think we can demonstrate good value for money.”

Cllr Adams also said the council had a responsibility to protect services that aided the vulnerable.

The authority has already saved £2.3million through changes implemented last year, and will gain an extra £1.5million a year in revenue from the rise in council tax.

PCC plans claw back the remaining £9.1million it must save over the new financial year through changes to direct services, efficiency and cost reductions, and “vacancy management”.

What we need is a completly new system like we had in the 50's.Then we had councillors who had something to offer to the community and without payments. Not like the lot we have now who are only there for the money. I am sure there are enough people in Pembrokeshire who would give there services and expert skills in a particular field...

The other overpaid directors £500k
60 councillors at £14k = £840k
There is £1.6 million and they would not be missed they cannot make a decision so pack your bags.

As the defence of Bryns salary has been - pay the most to get the best - I'm shocked that as the new year starts in April that these extremely clever and overpaid "managers" have not got all these savings plans ready - could we just get our 2 million quid back we "invested" in Pembrokeshires version of Butlins?
That reminds me - who in the council thought it was a good investment in the first place - not Jamie Adams who cannot even sort his own expenses out?

GO VISIT THE RESIDENTS IN SUNNYBANK.
ABOUT AS VULNERABLE AS YOU CAN GET.
WHAT IF IT WAS YOU OR YOUR LOVED ONES?
Sunnybank is a necessary part of the community, however much the focus is for bringing in care there are a lot that could not live with no one on site, and the rate of hospital admission would rise, then what would happen, beds taken up with hospitals acting as care home for the elderly.

Once the Council has approved an annual budget, Directors are authorised to incur expenditure within their departmental approved budgets.
In 2013/14, the current financial year, the Council approved a gross expenditure budget (including cost reductions) of £1.600,000 amounting to £319,384,000.
The Council's Revised Gross expenditure for 2013/14 or estimated outturn for the current year is £325,360,000. £5,976,000 more than the approved estimate.
How have our councillors allowed officers to incur additional expenditure over and above their departmental estimates? There are no explanations in the Budget document.

Does the increased budget reflect BPJs fighting fund provision ? (for QCs, high court cases, criminal investigations, appeals to the Court of uman rites AND finally his Golden Goodbye?)

It will be in there somewhere, when the final accounts are open for Public Inspection, but Leader Adams has commented in Council that he will let us all know how much it has cost.
What is the point of Councillors approving an annual budget with £1.6m cost reductions, when officers promptly spend £6m extra?

Get rid of EVERY Councillor and bar them from re-election.

Get rid of EVERY Officer, EVERY Head of Service immediately. Pay them what they are legally due and move on. The severance pay deals and pensions they have given themselves over the years will be more than enough for them and their buy-to-let and property portfolios will provide them with a little bit of beer money.

Give EVERY Senior Manager a year's gardening leave and let's see how we get on. If we manage to get by without them (which we certainly would), get rid of them as well. The might have to sell the holiday villa or rental property they own to make ends meet. My heart bleeds.

The greedy pigs whose noses have been in the trough for the last fifteen years need to be slaughtered.

Why reward them for ripping off the county? I'd much prefer to see them prosecuted and their assets stripped and repaid to the county treasury.
