Evacuated residents still not allowed home after Wiston explosion

RESIDENTS who were evacuated following an explosion at a house in Wiston yesterday (Thursday) have not been allowed to return home, a Dyfed-Powys Police spokesman has said.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident which happened just after noon. A 19-year-old man, who was airlifted to Morriston Hospital, is said to be in a “stable” condition.

The road from Wiston to Crundale was closed for several hours and nearby properties were evacuated while a bomb disposal team carried out checks of the area.

The spokesman said: “Dyfed-Powys Police is continuing to investigate following an incident in Wiston, Pembrokeshire, yesterday – where a man sustained a non- life threatening injury. He remains in hospital in a stable condition.

“The road from Wiston towards Crundale has re-opened. The safety of all in the area is our prirority, and the small number of residents who were evacuated have not been allowed back to their homes at this time. Searches and enquiries are expected to continue for the majority of today.

“Explosive Ordnance Disposal attended the scene to provide their specialist skills and knowledge and to ensure safety of those at scene, but left last night.

“Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this matter.”

On Thursday, one local, who asked not to be named, told the Western Telegraph: "I have been told that he has suffered a serious injury to a hand.

"Apparently there were two small bangs and then a louder one."
