ABOUT 100 people were on parade in Pembroke on Saturday (June 28) to mark the sixth annual Armed Forces Day.

They were among thousands of people celebrating the men and women of the Armed Forces community, past and present, at hundreds of events across the UK.

Taking part in the parade were soldiers from 14 Signal Regiment (Electronic Warfare) based at Brawdy, the 948 Squadron ATC Band, a unit from the Royal Marines Commandos Milford Haven and Pembroke Dock Sea Cadets. There were also about 10 standard bearers

The parade stepped off from the Chain Back at 10.30am, arriving at Pembroke Castle for a service of thanksgiving at 11am, led by Rev Roger Jones. Voices of Pembroke Choir led by Brian Lavender provided a dramatic boost to the hymn singing.

The Lord Lieutenant for Dyfed The Hon. Robin Lewis, Pembrokeshire County Council vice chairman Councillor Wynne Evans, and Pembroke and Pembroke Dock town councillors were among those who attended.

District Parade Marshal David Boswell said: “It went very, very well. The weather was kind to us and we had a very good turnout.”

“Armed Forces Day is very important – you’ve got to give it to them, these young guys all over the world put their lives on the line and we remember them and we remember the fallen.

“They gave their lives for us to be free and we’ve still got troops under pressure, flying the flag for the UK and protecting us."

A service was also held in Tenby where the mayor Cllr Sue Lane and Doug Perry of the town’s Royal British Legion laid wreaths at the war memorial.
