A national club is starting in north Pembrokeshire tomorrow (Saturday), aimed at teaching youngsters history through fun hands-on activities.

A Pembrokeshire branch of the Young Archaeologists’ Club (YAC) is holding its first introductory taster session for eight to 17 year olds on Saturday, July 19 from 10.30am-2.30pm at Castell Henllys Iron Age Village, which is owned and managed by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority.

The club has been established by staff from the National Park Authority, along with local volunteers interested in history and archaeology. They will organise monthly sessions, where club members will be encouraged to discover, visit, make and explore through a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities.

The taster sessions will give potential members and their parents the opportunity to come along and try some activities, learn what archaeology is all about and find out about YAC.

YAC is the only UK-wide archaeology club for young people aged between the ages of eight and 17. In 1993 the club was taken over by the Council for British Archaeology, whose president is Tony Robinson from Channel 4’s Time Team.

There are many advantages to becoming a member, including a special YAC magazine and a pass giving free or discounted entry to over 180 independent heritage sites across the UK.

If you would like to attend the taster session or find out more information, please get in touch with Karen Everson at Castell Henllys on 01239 891319.
