A six-year-old girl from Milford Haven is heading out on a 25km bike challenge tomorrow (Sunday) to raise money for three local charities.

Accompanied by dad Jason, Bronwen Lee will ride her bike from Haverfordwest to Neyland and back as part of the Pembrokeshire Charity Bike Ride.

So far, Bronwen has raised more than £250 in sponsorship, which will be shared between the Paul Sartori Foundation, Prostate Cymru and Pembrokeshire Special Needs Gymnastics Club.

All kitted out with a brand new pink bike, snazzy helmet and special fingerless gloves, Bronwen is looking forward to the big day, and has been cycling everywhere in preparation.

Her longest journey so far has been eight miles, so the 15-mile route will be a challenge, but mum Aelwen James has every faith in Bronwen’s ability.

“She’s very determined, even if it takes all day she’ll do it,” she said.

Bronwen was inspired to tackle the charity challenge after seeing her dad, now 43, complete a long-course race last year.

She is also happy to be raising money that will be used to help local people.

“I’ve seen the care that Paul Sartori has given local patients and families – the difference they have made to people at the end of their lives,” said Aelwen, who has worked in care for several years.

Bronwen is possibly the youngest participant in the Pembrokeshire Charity Bike Ride which has raised more than £160,000 in the last 13 years.

Last year’s event attracted 500 riders and helped to raise more than £18,000 for local charities.

The cyclists set off from Haverfordwest Rugby Club at 8am this Sunday.
