Hundreds of kids enjoyed a day of free fun on Saturday when they sampled activities from acapella to Zumba at Narberth Children’s Festival.

The volunteer-run event for under-16s - and their adult companions - was held at the town’s Bloomfield House Community Centre.

This was the second year of the festival’s revival after an absence from the town for over 20 years.

Bloomfield was a hive of activity for the day and was buzzing with excitement, said festival committee chairman Kimberley Morgan.

“It was a brilliant day and we had over 1,200 people through the door,“ she said. “We’ve had such good feedback from everyone, and we hope it will stand us in good stead to get funding and sponsorship for next year’s festival.

Western Telegraph reporter Becky Hotchin travelled to the festival from Goodwick with her children, three-year-old Cari and one-year-old Noah, and described it as ‘a real inspiration for other communities’.

Said Becky: “We had a fabulous time. There was so much to do, a real wealth of activities to suit all age ranges and interests and it was all so well-organised.

“We enjoyed storytelling, face painting, tea and cake, songs and games and three perfectly pitched performances from Narberth Youth Theatre. We only sampled a tiny part of what the festival has to offer and will definitely make a day of it next year. It’s incredible to think that something of this quality can be put on for free.”

Added county councillor Wynne Evans: “It was such a well-organised event and Bloomfield was an ideal venue. This festival will just grow and grow.”
