A DRIVE for more considerate parking is being accelerated by a Haverfordwest County Councillor.

Priory ward councillor, David Bryan, has been highlighting the danger to pedestrians caused by motorists parking on pavements for many months and recently brought a Notice of Motion to Full Council about the issue.

Cllr Bryan asked “selfish motorists to consider parents with pushchairs, disabled people on scooters and partially sighted people who, when faced with a vehicle blocking a pavement, had to walk out into an often busy road, with all its attendant dangers”.

He was told that Pembrokeshire County Council would look at specific issues of pavement parking when they arose so has since re-joined forces with the council’s Access Officer Alan Hunt and the Pembrokeshire Access Group and produced a leaflet to highlight the issue.

Members of the public will soon be able to pick up the leaflets from County Hall reception.

“The idea is that if members of the public see instances of vehicles blocking pavements they can slip the flyer under the offending person's windscreen wipers to remind him of the potential consequences of his actions. The leaflet has the full backing of Dyfed-Powys Police,” added Cllr Bryan.
