Carew (88 for 2) v St Ishmaels (102 all out) – Match abandoned

CAREW were entitled to curse the rain that spread across the county as they stood poised to sweep aside St Ishmaels as they needed only 15 runs to win with eight wickets and a pile of overs left to get them.

Andrew Palmer (25) was the only Tish batsmen to ever look settled as Peter Bradshaw (13) and Andrew Williams (12) chipped in a few runs but they looked in a parlous state against Tom Davies, whose figures stood at an impressive 7 for 15 when the teams first went off for rain with Tish on 73 for 9.

But then No 9 Danny Flynn smashed a quick-fire 24 that took Tom Davies to 7 for 33 before Rhys Davies (1 for 18) shifted Flynn, with Ian Forrester (1 for 20) and Rob Scourfield (1 for 27) providing support before they finished up with 102 all out in 35.1 overs.

James Hinchliffe (42) and Nick Scourfield (15) departed to Andrew Palmer (1 for 23) and Andrew Pawlett (1 for 15) but Tom Davies (13 not out) and Rhys Davies (11 not out) looked set to take Carew home until the heavens opened again.

Umpires: John Williams & Peter Perry.

Scorers: Julie Davies & Wendy Bradshaw.

l Carew Cricket Club was hit with the sad news of Beryl Marsh's untimely death on Saturday as the former club president travelled to watch her beloved team. Beryl used to sell loads of raffle tickets and watch Carew play alongside her old pal June Cole, who took over from Beryl as club president. She will be greatly missed by all at the club and our thoughts go out at this awful time to her family, friends and all at Carew Cricket Club.
