Johnston 2

Herbrandston 1

JOHNSTON gained a hard-fought victory at home against Herbrandston, in the only game played in Division One on Saturday.

This was the second week in a row that the Tigers had beaten Herbie, last week they won 3-2 away and this week won again to complete the double.

The visitors led one-nil at half time, Ryan Doyle scoring with a near post header in the 20th minute that crept over the line.

Johnston were awarded a penalty in the 65th minute when Herbrandston’s Mark Jones scythed down Adam Hawkins inside the box. Luke Hayward took responsibility and drilled a low shot from 12 yards beyond the reach of goalkeeper Oliver West.

However, the visitors pulled a goal back in the 72nd minute, striker Shane Walsh dancing past a few defenders before finding that far corner from 10 yards out.

Tigers’ keeper Joel Codd pulled off a couple of good saves to deny Scott Reid and Steffan Smart from getting an equaliser.

Pennar Robins 3

Hakin United 3

(Pennar Robins won 6-5 on penalties)

PENNAR Robins dramatically dumped Hakin United out of the West Wales Intermediate Cup, following a nervous penalty shootout.

The cup tie finished 3-3 after normal and extra time at Bush Camp, and the hero was Robins’ keeper Steve James who saved four penalties from nine to ensure the Robins won 6-5 on penalties.

The Vikings’ shock exit was not what manager Gary Dawes was expecting as his team came to Bush Camp unbeaten. The visitors got off to a perfect start when a mix-up at the back between Robins defender Richard Hughes and Stuart James led to a simple tap-in for Ashley Bevan in the tenth minute.

However, Hughes atoned for his earlier mistake as he equalised just ten minutes later. Hughes struck a vicious edge of the area free-kick that took a deflection off Adam Davies and sent keeper James Manson the wrong way.

On the hour mark and the Robins took the lead when Adam John found the bottom corner from a rebound off Manson.

The Vikings equalised in the 75th minute as Matthew Broome struck a shot from the edge of the area.

In the 91st minute the Vikings thought they had bagged the winner as Justin Harding got on the end of a Nicky Woodrow cross and scored from six yards.

But with the final play off the game Richard Hughes equalised with a header at a corner to send this epic cup tie into extra time. No further goals were scored in the extra time period and the tie was settled on penalties as keeper Stuart James scored from the spot to make it 6-5, then he pulled off a terrific stop to deny his opposite number Manson from scoring and that was that!

Pennar Robins: Stuart James, Jimmy Walker, Sam Southcott, Luke Phillips, Mikey Powell, Dean Driscoll, Richard Hughes, Adam John, Phil Thompson, Ben Steele, Dean Scourfield. Subs: Adam Cole, Carl Rees.

Hakin United: James Manson, Steve Allen, Gareth Fawcett, Andrew Kingston, Ewan Findlay, Steve Mathias, Jonathan Bennett, Adam Davies, Matthew Broome, Ashley Bevan, Justin Harding. Subs: Nicky Woodrow, James Stanmore, Aaron Owens.
