A familiar face has departed from Pembrokeshire business circles with the retirement of Henry Johnston, secretary/treasurer of the Pembrokeshire Business Club for nearly 14 years.
He became secretary of the former South Pembrokeshire club when it was founded in 1987, which was when Henry joined local government after 32 years in the business sector.
He had worked in the paper manufacturing industry as a senior executive with a number of leading paper companies before becoming assistant economic development officer with South Pembrokeshire District Council.
He finished his local government career as business development officer with the county council, working with the economic development division until he retired in 1999.
He plans to devote more of his time to his wife Ruth and his other varied interests. He is chairman of Pembrokeshire Crossroads Caring for Carers, serves on the loan panel of the Pembrokeshire Lottery and is a member and treasurer of Pembroke and District Male Voice Choir. His successor as PBC secretary/treasurer is Milford Haven-born Philip Marchant, a retired NatWest Bank manager.
