Bids close in radio battle

Three organisations are set to battle it out to become Pembrokeshires first radio station.

The Radio Authority closing date for receipt of applications for the new independent local radio (ILR) licence for the county was last Tuesday. By that date, three organisations had submitted applications for a station on the FM waveband.

They are;

o Haven FM. It proposes a full-service, community-focused radio station devoted to the positive promotion of Pembrokeshire, with the countys news, people, issues, and events set within a music mix of popular hits from the 1960s to today.

o More 102. It aims to play the 'music of our lives' complemented by a comprehensive service of local news, features, and information reflecting the voice and rhythms of Pembrokeshire.

o Real Radio. It proposes a full service of local news, information, music, and entertainment for Pembrokeshire.

Copies of these applications will be available for public scrutiny in the information sections of the main public libraries in Haverfordwest, Fishguard and Pembroke Dock, and at the Radio Authority's offices in London.

The Authority welcomes comments from the public on the proposals put forward by the applicants, and upon the tastes and requirements of listeners in this area.

These should be sent to the director of development, Radio Authority, Holbrook House, 14 Great Queen Street, London, WX2B 5DG, to arrive by Monday, October 29th.

The authority expects to announce its decision about the award of the licence towards the end of the year.
