Carew (143 for 7) beat Lawrenny (91 all out)
Umpires: Dave Morris and Arthur Chapman Scorers: Martin Scourfield and Malcolm Thomas
Carew maintained their thrust for the championship pennant as they beat neighbours Lawrenny by 52 runs despite only managing 143 for 7 themselves, with Darren Thomas announcing that he was back to full fitness with five of the wickets that helped reduce Lawrenny to 91 all out.
Yet Carew made a slow start after being put in to bat, losing Ian Sefton for a duck and Robert Hicks for 6, both to the bowling of new Welsh representative Rob Williams, the former with the help of a catch from Adi Harries as he ran from square leg to take a top edge skier and Hicks adjudged LBW.
Tim Hicks steadied things down with Nicky Scourfield until he found 13 an unlucky number and was bowled by Steve Pascoe Rees, who had joined another old-timer in Owen Williams in making a return to first-team action because of injuries.
Rees finished with 1 for 16 from 12 typically accurate overs and Larter Williams had three wickets as he finally removed Nicky Scourfield for a patient 50 and also shifted dangerous hitters Steve Cole (27) and Barry Ansell.
Adam Chandler was run out in the later stages of the innings for 15 and it was left to Darren Thomas and Rob Scourfield to nudge Carew near to the maximum bonus points for batting but finally ending up seven runs short on 143 for 7.
Lawrenny openers Adrian Harries and Andrew Cole (senior) took their score to 21 with few alarms but then Thomas caused consternation in the camp as Lawrenny lost five wickets for the addition of three runs! Thomas removed Big Cole for 7 with the aid of a Tim Hicks catch, trapped Christian Phillips LBW, bowled James Buckle and then finished off with the key wickets of Ian Jenkins and Chris Vincent, moved down the order to ease a leg strain from the Harrison-Allen semi-final.
James Owen supported by shifting Harries for 13 and Andrew Cole (junior), who had a six and four in his 17 before Rob Scourfield gave Carew a rare easy win over such determined opposition, taking 3 for 3 in only 16 balls as Lawrenny slumped to 91 all out in 25.4 overs.
