US success for local sauce company

A Haverfordwest company has returned from the United States after a successful marketing trip to the New York Fancy Food Fair.

Blindings Ltd was one of six food and drink companies which attended the fair from July 8th to 10th, supported by the Welsh Development Agency.

The company showcased a brand new range of ready-to-serve, ambient sauces.

We had a lot of interest from buyers and retailers which looks as if it will lead to considerable new business for us, said managing director Stephen Lawton.

It was good to find out exactly what the industry is looking for - now we have definite interest we intend to find a distributor to get the product out to the buyers.

An American company, wanting to introduce a new product into the UK, also approached Blindings regarding the possibility of making the product for the UK market, said Mr Lawton.

Arwyn Davies, WDA Food Directorate programme development manager, said: We had an excellent response at the show and made strong contacts with distributors, as well as with the hospitality and retail trade, in the USA.

This is the way we want to develop business over in the States, with distributors coming on board to provide the route to the market place for Welsh companies.

However, it is vital that we now build on the contacts made and develop them into solid business - there is obviously a lot of potential out there." q In October the WDA will be supporting around 20 Welsh companies in visiting the Anuga food fair in Cologne.
