Big win for league champions

Lamphey (233 for 3 declared) beat Whitland (106 all out)

Umpires: Bill Marchant and Dave Morris Scorers: Helen Hodges and Richard Merriman

Lamphey took a big step towards retaining the First Division championship as they easily accounted for bottom-placed Whitland, scoring 233 for 3 in only 30 overs before declaring and reducing the opposition to 106 all out.

It showed that they had shaken off the disappointment of Harrison-Allen Bowl defeat as they took the game by the scruff of the neck from the start, racing to 50 in only 5.3 overs, achieving three figures in 11.4 overs and charging past 200 in only 164 balls.

Leading the way, as always, was skipper Dave Lovell, who scored 50 from only 32 balls faced, sped to yet another ton in an amazing season from 76 deliveries and ended up on 154 not out, including 13 fours and, amazingly, another nine huge sixes.

There was support from Daniel Sutton (31) and Craig Nutty (12) before both fell to teenager Matthew Davies, with Peter Hall also contributing an unbeaten 11 not out in an unbroken stand of 79 with Lovell.

Whitland lost Hywel Bevan with only three on the board, bowled by Tim Haggar, before Dave Lee and Paul Davies added 40.

But Dave Lovell and Hywel Gibbs intervened to reduce the Borderers to 106 all out, Lovell chipping in with 2 for 20 as Gibbs returned his best league figures of the season with 5 for 21, with support from Haggar (2 for 32) and Steve Vale (1 for 4).

It left Lamphey home and dry - with time to discover that their win was doubly significant with nearest rivals Carew losing at Cresselly.
