Scores of runners take on the heat

In blistering heat 150 runners took to the streets of Tenby on Sunday for the Tenby 10K Annual Road Race.

Now it its tenth consecutive year the race is a Pembrokeshire County Council event that attracts athletic and fun runners from all over England and Wales.

Councillor Liz James, the Deputy Major of Tenby, started the race at 11 am. There were runners from Swansea Harriers, Pembrokeshire Harriers, Bracklea Harriers, Pembrokeshire Tri Club, Cornelly Striders, Les Croupier, Red Rose Runners, Sospan Road Runners, Amman Valley, Cardiff AC, Marshall Street Road Runners, St Clears Trots, Tenby Post Office, Mews Bistro and The Coach and Horses.

The first runner home was Paul Richards of Swansea Harriers in an excellent time of 32.24, and the first lady home was local runner Debbie Phillips of Pembrokeshire Harriers in a grand time of 40.26.

Excellent water stations were situated along the route and the sprit of the event was such that people were waiting along the route with hose pipes to cool the runners down.

Carol Howard, event organist, thanked everyone who supported the race and that goes to Tenby Police, St Johns Ambulance and numerous marshals and Tenby Leisure Centre staff who were on duty along the route insuring the race runs smoothly.
