Historic motor yacht launches charter mission

A LUXURY MOTOR YACHT - which saw service in the Second World War and was once owned by TV gardener Percy Thrower - is now running charter trips out of Milford Haven

The Dunedin now flies the flag of Tailor-Made Charter & Events, which takes both private and corporate clients for memorable trips around the Pembrokeshire coast with its famous islands.

The 65 foot long vessel is also available for longer trips up the Bristol Channel, to the Scilly Isles, or even further afield to Ireland or France. The Dunedin can carry 12 passengers and provides comfortable sleeping quarters for ten.

Built at the world famous Silver's Yard in Rosneath, Scotland, in 1936, for the then vast sum of £11,500, the Dunedin was very soon pressed into service in World War Two.

In the post-war years, the Dunedin was bought by the renowned Blue Peter gardener Percy Thrower. He renamed her Azalea after his favourite flower and she was his pride and joy for many years.

As is the case with most luxury yachts at some time in their lives, Dunedin went to the Mediterranean after changing hands again.

At the end of her time there, she became one of the best known dive boats on the South Coast of England, providing a base for dives to the wrecks off the Scilly Isles, Brittany and Southern Ireland.
