SKEWEN ATHLETIC 1 HAVERFORDWEST COUNTY 4
The Bluebirds' superior skill eventually saw them cruise to a fairly comfortable win in this, their first pre-season friendly, after they had gone a goal down early on.
Lee Jones equalised just before half-time and completed his hat-trick in the second half with the fourth goal coming from local player Matthew Price, who had come on as sub.
There were debut appearances for the ex-Llanelli duo, central defender Gary Davies and central midfield player Anthony Wright, as well as a first appearance in a Blues' shirt for much-travelled striker Steve Mardenborough, who seems now very likely to sign for the Bridge Meadow club.
Several locally-based players were in the Blues' line-up. There was a start for goalkeeper Peter Blain, playing behind his cousin Dylan, and substitute appearances for Price and for ex-Milford United player, Richie Adams.
BRIDGEND TOWN 0 HAVERFORDWEST COUNTY 8
This was a most impressive workout by the Bluebirds who powered their way to an easy victory in the heat of a Bridgend Saturday afternoon.
A feature of the game was a first appearance by the newly-forged strike partnership of Chris Miller and Steve Mardenborough (who finally signed for the Bridge Meadow club after the game).
The combination of Miller's bustle and Mardenborough's guile made them a real thorn in the flesh of the home defence and by half-time they had notched a goal apiece to send the Blues into a two-nil lead.
The second half saw impressive showings, (and a brace of goals apiece), from a couple of local players. Richie Adams, who was with Milford United last season, scored two and there were two more from Pembroke Dock boy Dean Busby, who was on Cardiff City's books last season.
There were goals also for Paul Burrows and for newly-signed midfielder Anthony Wright, who looks a decidedly promising acquisition.
There was also a welcome return to the Bridge Meadow fold for Tom Ramuset, who has played a couple of friendlies for Merthyr, but who lined up in the Bluebirds' ranks again on Saturday and turned in a sparkling performance.
The Blues have three warm-up games remaining. They travel to the Rice Road ground in Ammanford to play Pontardawe on Wednesday, August 1st (KO 6.30 pm), and then entertain Merthyr on Saturday, August 4th (KO 2.30 pm).
The final friendly will be the eagerly-awaited game with Swansea City, on the Bridge Meadow on Tuesday August 7 (KO 7 pm.)
