Lawrenny (173 for 9) beat Haverfordwest (161 all out)
Umpires: Les Hastings and John Williams Scorers: Malcolm Thomas and Jayne Cole
In a topsy-turvy finish at Lawrenny the home side eased home by 12 runs in an entertaining match against Haverfordwest, who had slumped to 73 for 6 in pursuit of the homesters 173 for 9, fought back to look favourites at 153 for 7 - but then lost three quick wickets as Steve Pascoe Rees came on to take two wickets along with a run-out.
Lawrenny lost openers Adi Harries for 9 and Chris Vincent for 17 but James Buckle and Christian Phillips advanced the score well beyond the 100 mark before Buckle was adjudged lbw for 53 (six fours and two sixes) to start off a collapse where Lawrenny slumped from 128 for 2 in the 33rd over to 139 for 7 within five overs as Darren Bricks excellent line and length earned him figures of 5 for 35 and a free gallon of ale back at the Haverfordwest clubhouse.
Christian Phillips scored 37 before he was one of Bricks victims and there were sixes from Andrew Cole (junior) and Ian Jenkins, who was out off the last ball of the innings for 24, a little knock which sent Lawrenny to 173 for 9 in their 45 overs.
Simon Cole gave Lawrenny a fine start in the field as he grabbed the prized scalps of Jonathan Twigg, Andrew and Steve Phillips, plus Karl Rhead, four early wickets that really put pressure on The Towns resources.
Phil Sutton and Danny Potter also departed cheaply before Paul Thomas and talented teenage wicket-keeper Richard James joined forces to boost Haverfordwest fortunes, with Thomas including seven fours in his 49 before he was bowled by James Buckle.
His demise brought Simon Williams to the crease and a stand of 32 with James boosted The Town - until a mix-up saw Williams run out for 14. James reached 22 not out but ran out of partners as Rees removed Clive Tucker and Darren Brick - and The Town finished up 12 runs short before enjoying a karaoke evening with their opponents at the clubhouse.
