PEMBROKESHIRE County Council is to commission contractors to undertake improvement works at Haverfordwest Railway Station.
These will involve extending and combining the two existing car park extensions, a new access link from the station, a new traffic management regime and associated landscaping.
The project is programmed to start on Tuesday, August 28th, and will take 16 weeks to complete.
The civil engineering contractor carrying out the work is local company, Evan Pritchard Contractors Limited, of Narberth.
The project includes introducing a one-way system with an increase in safety, improved security, and better passenger facilities.
Included in the scheme will be:
A new transparent and attractive joint bus and rail shelter.
Provision for taxis as well as the private motorist.
Covered cycle parking facilities.
Improved directional signing to and from the station.
Resurfacing and improved footways.
Street lighting to improve security and safety.
Improved provision of disabled parking.
Landscaping.
Regular train and bus services will be maintained during this period, but there is likely to be disruption to passengers using the car parks.
It will be necessary to introduce restricted parking for the work to be carried out, and passengers travelling by car are advised to allow sufficient time at the beginning of their journey to allow for parking their vehicles.
The project is being funded by the National Assembly transport grant allocations, with assistance from the Strategic Rail Authority. It is being undertaken in association with Wales and West Passenger Trains and Railtrack.
