Newly crowned champions Carew continued their good form with league victory number 12 of the season over Neyland.
Now only second placed Burton stand between them and a 100 success record for the 2001 season as it reaches its climax tonight (Tuesday, August 21st).
Victory over Neyland was set up with yet another good all round bowling performance.
The home team struggled to 64 for 9 in their 20 overs with Kath Huxley being the main destroyer, finishing with 6 for 18 from her five over spell.
Jo Kerrison (21) got Carew off to a good start in reply before Julie Garlick finished the game with 25 not out as they reached their target for the loss of just two wickets.
Burton had an almost identical victory as they dismissed basement club Cresselly for 66.
Ali Brace showed some resistance with her 33 but lack of support saw the bowlers take control, the pick of whom was Finola Scale with 2-13.
Pam Vaughan led the Burton reply with 28 not out with support from Jane Hitchings(24) which brought Burton to victory at 67 for 3 in the 4th over. Herbrandston secured third place in the league with an emphatic victory over fourth placed Hook. Herbie totalled 100 for 9 batting first, Caroline Cooper the main rungetter with 35, Angie Lloyd backed her up with 24 as Mandy Rees took 5-22. Sam Rossiter made 24 in the Hook innings but her dismissal with the score on 34-2 sparked a massive collapse as Hook were all out for just 46. Vicky Lloyd finished with a 6-17 haul.
The game of the evening undoubtedly was one clash between Haverfordwest and Llangwm.
Haverfordwest batted first and Helen Lambert held the innings together with 46 in their total of 97-4, Mandy Davies picked up two wickets for the visitors.
The Llangwm response was also based around one innings. Jane Griffiths finished undefeated on 55 but it wasnt enough to give Llangwm an away victory as they also totalled 97, for the loss of four wickets to give the league its first tied match of the season.
