Fun Jungle brings care boost to young patients

CHILDREN visiting Withybush Hospital can now benefit from a garden specially designed for them.

The Fun Jungle was opened officially on Saturday, thanks to the Starlight Foundation and local fundraisers, who raised £30,000.

The garden will be suitable for both able-bodied and special needs children, whether they are inpatients, outpatients or simply visiting the hospital with their family.

It it also hoped it will be available to special needs pupils in the communitys schools.

The Fun Jungle has many interesting sensory features for children, including a jungle house, bean bag game, hoop game, binoculars, wind chimes, and tuneful toucans.

The aim is that the garden will be just as much fun for children with wheelchairs as able-bodied children.

Play specialist Jackie Broadhurst said: Were absolutely delighted with it. We really feel it will be of tremendous benefit to the care we give to all the children being cared for in any capacity within the Trust for all sorts of reasons, whether therapeutic, psychological, or physical.

It will also be of benefit not only for the children, but their families and siblings.

The Fun Jungle was opened officially by Councillor John Allen-Mirehouse, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Dyfed.
