Narberth 9 Haverfordwest County 1
Narberth manager Ralph Phillips was a delighted man on the weekend following his sides second emphatic win in a row.
Last week they beat Fishguard 7-0 and on Saturday they destroyed a shell-shocked Haverfordwest County. If they had a little more luck then the scoreline could quite easily have gone way into double figures.
A few eyebrows were raised in the close season when Haverfordwest moved last years First Division team into the Welsh League Reserve Division West and from being a side to be reckoned with last season they have, sadly, become a team struggling to compete this campaign.
Take nothing away from Narberth however, on the weekend they were superb. With James Stevens starting his first full game of the season the defence had a more solid look about it and he is starting to forge a special partnership with fellow defender Phil Scourfield, who also looked the part.
Narberth got the ball rolling after ten minutes when Jason Bridges was pushed forward following a good build up involving Raff Barnett who played the ball through for the striker to notch his first.
Minutes later and Stevens latched on to a loose ball that Haverfordwest failed to clear and the grateful defender powerfully smashed the ball home.
Narberth began pushing forward at every opportunity and their third came from Bridges just before the interval when he was put clear by Ian Morris. Raff Barnett began the second half in emphatic fashion when he turned provider into goal scorer while Bridges claimed his third when he lobbed the keeper after being put clear by Wayne Howells.
The roles were reversed for the sixth goal when Bridges turned provider for Howells to benefit and the abrasive forward was at it again minutes later when he finished off a move involving Barnett.
Despite being on the wrong end of this goal spree Haverfordwest did manage to score when Mike Smith slipped one passed Richard Morgans but Narberth werent finished and they came back with two more goals, the first by Barnett who smashed one in after breaking in from the right and the final one by Bridges who grabbed his fourth when Richard Henton put him clear.
Despite walking away with four goals to his credit Bridges could have grabbed seven, but somehow he managed to miss three one on ones with the keeper!
After 16 goals in two games, Narberth will be travelling to Camrose on Saturday in confident mood.
