English 'are no longer welcome'

A SHADOWY Welsh nationalist movement, which is campaigning to free Wales from English rule, is operating from a PO box number in Haver-fordwest.

Leaders of the movement claim strong support in Pembrokeshire but want to remain underground and will not go public.

In a chilling reminder of Meibion Glyndwr, the Welsh extremists who set fire to holiday homes in the 1980s, they warn: The English immigrant must be discouraged from settling in Cymru. No longer should there be a welcome in the hillside for these people.

The movement is known as Cymru 1400, after the date of Owain Glyndwrs war of independence with England, and was formed in October this year.

Their aims are to campaign for a Welsh republic and to defend Welsh language and culture. Some of the members have been recruited from ex-nationalist parties.

A leading supporter is Tenby-born actor and film-maker Kenneth Griffith, who has caused outrage for his IRA sympathies.

He urged closer links between Welsh and Irish Republicans when addressing the movements first official rally at Cilmeri, Builth Wells, recently.

Afterwards he told the Western Telegraph: I support anything that helps sever Wales from the English.

Cymru 1400 also says: If it helps to further our cause, we want links with Irish republicans.

Mr Griffith, an outspoken supporter of Sinn Fein, has told Whitehall on numerous occasions: If the President of the United States and the Prime Minister of Britain think I am a terrorist - what can I do?

The movement was set up partly because of the Welsh Assemblys apparent lack of speaking up for Wales. They believe that the Labour majority are putting themselves first and not Wales and that the Assembly is only pleasing the masses in London.

Although Cymru 1400 say that they are not anti-English or anti-black they have links to the British Nationalist Party on their website. They also warn: If direct action is needed, direct action will be considered.
