Call centre reunites groom and best man

A BRIDEGROOM and his best man, who lost touch more than ten years ago, have been re-united by their careers at ITV Digitals contact centre in Pembroke Dock.

Originally school friends in the 1960s, Robert Jenkins - now living in Pembroke Ferry - and Llangwm-based Brian Davies lost track of each other when they moved away from their home town of Port Talbot. Rob was Brians best man at his wedding in July 1971.

Now a duty manager at the call centre, Rob retired from his career as a civil engineer and moved to Pembrokeshire to relax and take advantage of the sea views and countryside.

After three months he decided that retirement wasnt for him, and two weeks later started with ITV Digital.

He said of his move to Pembrokeshire: When I started looking for a job after my retirement, I really expected to have to move out of the area, but found a job at the centre in Pembroke Dock that meant I could use all my experience, but in a different industry.

The last thing he expected was to bump into the groom he had stood alongside at the altar all those years ago.

Project manager Brian Davies had been working at the ITV Digital call centre for eight months. He said: I cannot believe after all these years we have found ourselves working for the same company. Rob started working at the centre a few months after I did and had only been working here for two days before we bumped into one another.

It is amazing how the years pass by and before you know it you have lost contact with someone. Its certainly puts a new meaning on contact centre for us!
