Five up for super Swifts

Camrose 0 Monkton Swifts 5

Monkton Swifts began the New Year in emphatic style by beating Camrose 5-0 away from home.

It was a thoroughly deserved victory for Benno Jones men as they completely dominated the game and apart from a late rally by the home side towards the end of the match, they were rarely troubled.

Swifts keeper Wayne Reynolds had virtually nothing to do in the first half with Adi Smith being the only thorn in the Swifts side.

The Camrose striker was the only man to have a shot at goal but Reynolds pulled off a brilliant save to deny him a score.

With James Archer back in defence for the visitors, their team had a stronger look about it and Barry Dilworth was the man to get the ball rolling after he headed home a cross in from Martin James.

James, back in action after breaking his leg, proved a handful for the home teams defence as his mazy runs and deft touches allowed him to have a few chances at goal and he finally scored after being put through from mid field.

Monkton continued to dominate after the break and James was first to score as he slammed one in with a spectacular overhead kick following a cross by Lee Jones.

Rob Tweed was next to score as he claimed his first of the season with a well taken header from a Brian Nicholas free-kick and not content with this solitary score, he notched in another for good measure after a corner by Chris Manning.

Camrose came back and pressurised the visitors but the Swifts were in no mood to conceded goals and a deserved victory was theirs.
