Supermarket giant Sainsbury has confirmed it is looking at a number of options in Haverfordwest.
The company is one of several names which have been suggested as possible buyers of the now empty Co-operative store on the Old Bridge.
But a Sainsbury spokesman added: We are always looking for new opportunities, but nothing has been confirmed. There are no plans for Haverfordwest that I can comment on at the moment.
Town centre manager Gordon Doughty has brought the prominent site to the notice of several multi-national companies.
He has written to supermarket chains Morrisons and Asda along with Next, Marks and Spencer, British Home Stores, and Littlewoods.
I pointed out to them the prominent town centre location and advantages of the property and gave them the telephone number of Co-ops property department. The only reply we have received was from Next which said it was not interested, said Mr Doughty.
Due to move into the old Sam Goody premises in Bridge Street is The Officers Club. The company is not new to the town as it had a shop at the Riverside Quay which closed around 18 months ago.
At the Riverside Quay itself, the last empty units could soon be occupied. Interest has been shown in part of the premises previously occupied by Johlz, the jeans shop, and this is now in the hands of the solicitors. Riverside Quay manager Rowland Keevil said: A small kiosk area is left at the end and there is also interest in that.
