Big battle ahead for Bluebirds

After a rain-soaked weekend, Haverfordwest County hope to get back into action with a couple of real six-pointers over the next two weeks.

The game at Rhayader on Saturday, February 9th, will be an awkward one, but one which the Bluebirds will feel they really have to win.

Before that, this coming Friday night (kick-off 7.30 pm) the Blues have a potentially difficult game at Stebonheath against fellow basement club, Llanelli. Both Haverfordwest and Llanelli now lie just a couple of places off the bottom of the table and would normally be very anxious for the points against a side who are direct opponents in the tussle against relegation.

Also, given the trauma which surrounded Jason Jones departure from the Bridge Meadow earlier in the season, the former Blues stalwart will really feel he has a point to prove, and his new-look Reds side, containing ex-Bluebirds Carl Mainwaring, Jamie Rickard and Ben Miles, will be avid for the win.

However, the passion will not be confined to one side. Many of the Blues younger local players, like Richie Adams and Marcus Taylor, who might well feel that they were never given a fair crack of the whip by Jones, will be determined to prove the former Meadow boss wrong. It all promises a fairly torrid encounter.

The club is running a bus to Stebonheath, leaving the Bridge Meadow at 5pm. Supporters wishing to travel can contact John Daniels on 01437 765358.

Meanwhile, the Bluebirds are delighted to have signed Deryn Brace as an addition to their League of Wales squad.

Deryn, a native of the county, has Football League experience with Norwich City and Wrexham and is a former Wales Under-2l international. Now 26, he is currently coaching director at the Pembrokeshire College Football Academy, and had lately been playing for Tenby United in the Pembrokeshire League.

The Blues have been hoping to sign him for some while, and will hope that his obvious class will add guile and penetration to their midfield.
