A SOUTH Pembrokeshire man has put his mark on a revolutionary new transport system which has just gone on trial in Cardiff.
Pete Baker, of The SignBox at Pentlepoir, is the only Welsh businessman who has been involved in the production of the Ultra - an electric-powered personal taxi which is the first of its kind in the world.
The project is being pioneered by Cardiff City Council, whose four-foot high Welsh Dragon logo will feature prominently on the side of each fibreglass Ultra vehicle.
These on-board graphics are being produced using computer technology by 52-year-old Pete, whose business has recently re-located to Evening Star Farm at Pentlepoir, after a number of years in Llanteg.
Pete is no stranger to seeing his signs in high-profile locations in many parts of the world - including on the side of 18 Rolls Royce cars owned by Harrods boss Mohammed Al-Fayed.
And that particular job led to the commission for the new transport project, he explained. Two of the guys I was working with at the time are now involved in the Bristol-based company developing the Ultra, so they thought of me when they needed signage.
I went up and fitted the graphics to the prototype car and I have to say it looked wonderful. Im looking forward to seeing the whole fleet of 40 in action.
The unusual system, which will operate in Cardiff city centre and around the Bay area, has just been unveiled to the public before a 12 month trial.
