Developing Docks go from strength to strength

Great recreational opportunities are now available in the Milford Haven waterway.

We are very much aware, says Ted Sangster, that there is great potential for development in this area, and we have been expanding our own marina in Milford Docks very successfully.

The marina now has 255 berths, and last summer there was a 90% occupancy, the highest ever.

A new boat hoist, to take vessels out of the water, will be provided this year and the slipway will be extended, he said.

Another exciting development has been the building of apartments, offices and retail units around the Marina.

This will add to the already existing businesses and attractions on the Docks. They include a huge range from angling businesses to aromatherapy; brokerage to building contractors and business support; car repair to call centre, college facilities and electrical and electronic businesses; fish merchants to fuel suppliers and furniture; a golf course to a gallery and garden services; marine contractors to model makers, mortgage brokers and museum; from places to eat to plastic windows and pollution control; a seal hospital to security specialists, ship and boat repairs, shipping agents, ships chandler and solicitors; trawler agents to tool hire, and tyres and exhausts; yacht chandlery and yacht charter.

The marketing of Milford Haven and Pembrokeshire, for recreational purposes, is wholeheartedly supported by Ted and his team. An example of this is that the Authority participated in a stand promoting the waterway at the London Boat Show.

We are looking at acting as a catalyst to encourage others with interests in recreational facilities in the Haven. There is certainly potential for more marinas and an increase in the number of moorings. The county council is also looking at improving various pontoons and landing stages around the Haven, he said.
