Food industry set to compete for host of glittering awards

WEST WALES food and drink producers, restaurateurs and individuals are being urged to enter Wales first ever national food and drink awards.

The Welsh Development Agency Taste/Blas 2002 Wales Food and Drink Awards have been devised to celebrate and reward those working in the food industry in Wales - literally from plough to plate.

Wynfford James, WDA agri-food director, said: The awards are part of the WDAs commitment to raising awareness locally, nationally and internationally of the innovation, creativity and excellence in the food and drink sector of Wales. It is an industry that we are fiercely proud of and we want to reward those whose hard work goes into creating and developing the sector.

We are hoping for hundreds of entries from all over Wales, and I would encourage all those involved in the industry in West Wales to find out how they can enter.

With eight categories that span the entire food chain from producer to consumer, manufacturer to restaurant owner, the awards main objective is to provide the maximum number of food businesses with the opportunity to promote their products and services to existing and potential consumers world-wide.

A top judging panel has been recruited from respected industry figures, food loving celebrities and influencers from around Wales.

Entries are now open, with a dedicated phone line, 0845 300 0042, and e-mail address: tasteblas@adas.co.uk set up to answer all queries and offer advice on how to complete the entry form. In addition, forms can be filled in on-line by visiting the website www.foodwales.com The closing date for entries is August 16th, with final judging in October culminating in a glittering televised event and an awards ceremony in November.

The scheme has already attracted many high profile sponsors, including Sainsburys, Tesco, ASDA, and HTV.
