Local police join pay protest

Police officers in Pembrokeshire will join their colleagues from across the country in lobbying MPs at Westminister next week over the Home Secretarys controversial pay offer.

Around 60 officers from Pembrokeshire are expected to join thousands of officers at Westminister next Wednesday.

The move was announced by the Police Federation after strong opposition to David Blunketts pay plan - 96% of officers in Dyfed-Powys voted to reject the deal.

Peter Dickinson, the Dyfed Powys representative of the Police Federation said: The feeling is very, very strong on this. I would estimate about 90% of officers want to attend, but only those who are not working will be able to do so. We have a commitment to the public and that will not change.

The police federation expects the protest to last around ten hours, with forces staggering their attendance to lobby their own MPs.

Mr Dickinson added: We hope to take a couple of thousand officers from Dyfed-Powys, with around 60 attending from Pembrokeshire. Those figures may be swelled by the families of officers attending - this deal does not just affect officers, but their families too.
