Bluebirds pick up a much needed point

FLEXSYS CEFN DRUIDS 2 Haverfordwest County 2

The Bluebirds ended their recent drought, both of goals and points, by coming from behind to win a point after a game in which they fully deserved to come away with all three.

The James Williams-sponsored Blues fielded their three new midweek signings, Under-21 international goalkeeper Lee Jarman and midfielder Simon Heal, both on loan from Cardiff City, and another midfielder, Craig Thomas, who has moved from Ton Pentre.

Both Heal and Thomas showed up extremely well in midfield and it was a feature of the Blues game that they should play the ball through the channels, giving much more of an opportunity to their two small front runners Matthew Price and Richie Adams.

They did go a goal down early on when Eston Chiverton was adjudged (harshly, in the opinion of Mike Ellis) to have brought down a Flexsys player in the box and the penalty was awarded and converted.

The equaliser followed a period of sustained Blues pressure when, after a goalmouth melee, Adams pounced to hammer the ball in from close range.

The second half saw the visitors mount wave after wave of attacks, going close many times, having several shots cleared off the line and seeing Price hit the post. The statistics for the game tell their own story. The Bluebirds had five corners to the Druids two, and had 12 shots on target to Flexsys three.

It was a shock when the Blues were hit on the break by a second Flexsys goal. They continued to surge forward however and got a deserved equaliser six minutes from the end, after a lovely combination by the two local subs.

Nathan Thomas won a fine tackle on the halfway line and played a superb through ball which was very well converted by Marcus Taylor.

The Blues will be glad of this point but will reflect that the three other basement clubs, Llanelli, Rhayader and Oswestry, all picked up a point this weekend.

The real crunch game, at home to Oswestry, kicks off at the Bridge Meadow at 2.30 pm on Saturday, March 9th.

This will be the real six-pointer and John Lewiss side will approach it with their confidence lifted considerably.

Fans are urged to get behind them in the most crucial game of the season so far. The Oswestry game will be followed on Tuesday 12th March by another home game against Barry Town, kick-off 7.30 pm.

Haverfordwest County: Lee Kendall; Norman Parselle, Eston Chiverton, Dylan Blain, Jason Price, David Watts, Craig Thomas, Simon Heal, Richie Adams, Matthew Price, Deryn Brace. Subs (all played): Marcus Taylor, Nathan Thomas, Andrew Smith.
