Resort plays its part in TV drama

Tenby takes on the role as the setting for the poignant finale to a new Channel 4 drama.

The closing scenes for Falling Down, which stars Timothy Spall, George Cole and Annette Crosbie, were filmed in the resort on Wednesday. The three-part tragi-comedy, being made by Tiger Aspect Productions, is a new screenplay by writer Tony Grounds.

Set mainly in North London, where filming has been taking place for the past seven weeks, Falling Down tells the story of Mitchell (Spall), a successful family man in the throes of a mid-life crisis. In the final scenes of the drama, Mitchell flees the city with his dying father (Cole) and heads for Tenby, where the family had holidayed in his childhood.

The film crew, with Spall and Cole, made an early start on Wednesday morning to capture the characters dawn arrival in Tenby. Filming took place along the Croft and in the Fourcroft Hotel seafront garden, when rain and overcast skies added to the atmosphere of the dramatic scenes, said producer Catherine Waring.

The writer of the series deliberately wanted to feature Tenby, as he had enjoyed family holidays there and it has a special place in his heart, said Catherine.

The crew also spent Thursday and Friday completing their filming at St Govans Head. Falling Down is due to be screened on Channel 4 later this year
