An award of £945,000 from the Welsh Assembly in transport grant bids, which has enabled the county council to go ahead with various transport initiatives, was welcomed by members of the county highways committee on Thursday.
The projects in the pipeline include: o £105,000 on a feasibility study, environmental impact assessment and public consultation on the £6.5m Moat Way community regeneration initiative at Pembroke.
o £300,000 for a previously accepted scheme aimed at improving pedestrian access to bus and railway stations.
o £400,000 for an already accepted scheme to improve bus accessibility including the on-going low floor bus corridor initiative.
o £140,000 for encouraging non-car modes of transport in school and reducing accident risks to children, enabling the completion of five school vicinity schemes at Tenby, Broad Haven and St Dogmaels.
Councillor Michael Williams hoped the Tenby schemes would heed the concerns of residents of Heywood Lane and Heywood Court who had petitioned about the possible affect on their access.
