Two face toughest coastal challenge

TWO physically disabled ex-servicemen will be travelling around the Pembrokeshire coast this summer, to raise £100,000 for the Royal British Legion and to find 100,000 new blood donors.

David Abrutat and Nigel Rogoff will be visiting the county as part of their Around Britain Challenge.

David, who is paralysed from the waist down after being in a car accident in 2000, will be attempting to complete the challenge by handcycle. And Nigel - who had his leg amputated after a parachuting accident - will be travelling by sea kayak.

They will be accompanied by a support team of specialists. The two are scheduled to be in Pembrokeshire in June and among the places they will be visiting are Tenby and St Davids.

Both men owe their lives to blood transfusions following their accidents, which is why they are so keen to help the UK National Blood Services by recruiting more blood donors.

The Royal British Legion - Britains leading ex-service charity - also played a vital part in their recovery and they will be beneficiaries of what is hoped will be the £100,000 raised once the challenge has been completed.

The challenge is expected to last approximately 130 days and will cover an area of 3,000 miles. It starts on May 10th from Tower Bridge in London and has been nominated for one of the Golden Jubilee Year listed events. The challenge has a budget of £94,000, which includes accommodation in a motorhome, administration, management fees, clothing and equipment, medical assistance, food and design and maintenance of a dedicated website.
