Pembrokeshire County Council has re-signed its Civic Amenity/Recycling Centres as part of its commitment to recycling and reducing waste.
The project is part of a drive to improve recycling facilities for its customers and also in response to Government targets for reducing the amount of biodegradable waste to landfill, and increasing the amount of recycling and composting.
The new signs aim to encourage people to recycle by making it clear which materials can be recycled and where they should be placed. The council has worked closely with the Environment Agency to achieve this. At the recent launch of these refurbished facilities, Pembrokeshire County Council chairman, Councillor Rosemary Hayes, said: The councils aim is to make it easier for people to recycle and to encourage the practice of recycling in Pembrokeshire. It is important we all work together to increase the amount of waste that we recycle.
Attendants at our Civic Amenity/Recycling Centres will always recycle as much as possible, and the public can help us by separating recyclables - for example paper, glass, cans etc - prior to arriving at these sites. During the last six months the council has started to work on improving separation by providing containers for different materials, including the collection of household items for re-use via FRAME.
FRAME has also started working with schools in the county to encourage the recycling of white paper. One school participating in this pilot scheme is St Marks VA School at Merlins Bridge. To demonstrate to everyone how much recyclable material can be produced, the pupils of St Marks collected newspapers and magazines and brought them to Winsel Civic Amenity/Recycling Centre, near Haverfordwest, to be recycled. For further information regarding the location and opening times of the Civic Amenity/Recycling Centres please contact the Waste Strategy Section on Tel. 01437 775416.
