Garw 1 Milford United 1
Milford United may have gained a much valued point away to Garw on Saturday, but again it was a lack of composure in front of goal that cost them the win that they probably deserved.
Playing with a stiff breeze in the first half, the Robins took control from the start and created numerous chances which they failed to put away. Playing their usual brand of enterprising soccer, they took the lead after 15 minutes when dynamic striker Ricky Morgan got on the end of a route one ball and calmly slotted it past the helpless Garw keeper.
Thereafter the rest of the half belonged to the visitors. Morgan again went close as did player/manager Micky Lewis but both chances came to nothing.
The Robins also had two penalty appeals turned down. The first was when Alan Davies was felled in the box and the second and possibly more blatant appeal was when Morgan produced a cross into the box and a Garw player stuck his hand on it. Sadly, the referee interpreted their appeals differently.
Towards the end of this all-action half, Rob Jones shot just wide. Even playing against the wind didnt scupper the Robins cavalier style of play. Again the passing was crisp and sharp and plenty of chances were created but Milford failed to make them count.
Lewis put Morgan through but he hit the ball straight at the keeper and the same combination was in action a few minutes later but Morgan hit wide. Mid-way through the half striker Gareth Barton broke his leg and naturally, this seemed to affect the players concentration.
They still tried to play with their attacking style but Garw began to come into the game more. They finally equalised with only eight minutes to go when a mistake in the Robins box allowed them in for a score leaving manager Lewis saying:
The boys battled hard and it was a good point gained, but we definitely could have won it.
Milford have two games this weekend. The first is at home to Cardiff Corries on Saturday which is a real six-pointer and Sundays game is away against Llanwern.
Milford United: Mark Poole, Sean Cresser, Wayne Price, Richard Bland, Phi Catlin, Rob Jones, Alan Davies, Paul McMurrish, Gareth Barton, Ricky Morgan, Micky Lewis; Subs: Rhodri Thomas, Dai Merrick, Geraint James.
