St Davids 7 Llanelli Wrers 60
Several late changes caused by house-building and work commitments meant that St Davids started their home match against Llanelli Wanderers with just the bare 15 players and the Saints were always up against it with so many key absentees - although team manager John James, was quick to point out that his players gave 100%, despite trailing by 27-0 at the interval and with Llanelli Wanderers going on to score a further five tries after the break.
The only Saints score came soon after the restart when quick hands by Osian Rees and Sion Morgan released Darren Salmon, the top-try scorer in the club showing good pace to cross for a try which was converted by full back Rob Miles.
The Wanderers opened their account with a try by flanker Rob Jenkins, which was converted by scrum half Dave Harnett.
Others soon followed from winner Mark Cook (2), his brother Lee on the other wing and prop Ian Fraser.
In the second half, St Davids battled hard via skipper Eddie Bolger, Gethin Bateman, Steve Morris, Ray Owen and Dai Hughes Croesgoch but they couldnt stop Llanelli Wanderers adding further tries by Andrew Jerkins, Damian Lee, Rhys Harries and Steffan Rogers. Tristram Jones also scored a try as well as landing four more conversions - and Llanelli Wanderers were good value for such a clear-cut success!
St Davids: Rob Miles: Darren Salmon Osian Rees; Sion Morgan; Andrew Lamb: Phil Lamb; Steve Rees: Richard James; Gerwyn Richards; Chris Morgan: Gethin Bateman; Ray Owen: Eddie Bolger; Steve Morris; Dai Hughes.
