Farmers market gains national accolades

THE award-winning Farmers Market in Haverfordwest recently gained some favourable publicity in two national publications.

The market, held twice a month at the Riverside Quay in Haverfordwest, is featured in the May issue of the BBC Good Food magazine.

Writer Rose Prince choose it as one of the five best farmers markets in the country.

She said her selection were good examples of well-run markets with a wide variety of stalls, selling great food that best defines the regional spirit. All you need to do is grab a shopping basket.

In a recent issue of the Observer magazine, Haverfordwest Farmers Market is rated sixth in the countrys top ten.

It says the market - now in its fourth year and which attracts upwards of 25 stalls - boasts a stunning range of cheeses and real heather honey. Kate Morgan, food officer of Pembrokeshire County Council, which runs the market, said she was delighted with the national publicity.

She said: The reputation the market has achieved is very much down to the support from the producers themselves and the high quality of their products, which all originate within a 40 mile radius of Haverfordwest. The beauty of a farmers market is that the producers sells directly to the public - there is no middle-man.

Kate said, as the organiser, she was always looking to attract new producers to the market.
