Vintage cavalcade

More than 60 tractors took part in the 22-mile Vintage Tractor Run organised by the West Wales Group of the National Vintage Tractor and Engine Club at the weekend when a substantial sum was raised for the Noahs Ark Appeal.

The run started from Caffi Beca, Efailwen, with a warm welcome from proprietor Robert James. TV and radio personality Roy Noble, a leading figure in the Noahs Ark Appeal, joined the cavalcade which left at 10.30 am and reached the Llysyfran dam at midday via Llangolman, Maenclochog and Tufton.

At Llysyfran a fine array of vintage cars was displayed by members of the Pembrokeshire Vintage Car Club, vehicles from the Neyland Classic Club, stationary engines from NVTEC members and commercials owned by Gareth and Wyn Griffiths, Hermon. A fair organ played throughout and a large attendance gave generously to the appeal.

After refreshments Roy Noble and radio personality Brian Harries, deputy chairman of the Pembrokeshire appeal, and chairman Malcolm Green toured the displays and, before the second leg started at 2.45 pm, Roy Noble thanked participants, sponsors and donors.

Simon Huntley, chairman of the West Wales group of the NVTEC, thanked Roy Noble, Malcolm Green and Brian Harries for their presence. The run finished at Caffi Beca at 4 pm.

The weather was mostly kind but drivers returned home in wet and windy conditions. A cheque presentation will take place at the clubs June meeting at the Nantyffin Hotel, Llandissilio. l Roy Noble in the driving seat at Saturdays tractor run with Brian Harries, Malcolm Green, Dillwyn Phillips, Simon Huntley and Michael Evans, treasurer, looking on.
