Arthur shines in Cresselly draw

There was a significant innings from talented young players in both sides as Cresselly had the better of the draw against Whitland - with Damian Arthur taking Cresselly to 213 for 5 and then 14 year old Rhyddian Harries leading the opposition to safety with a stylish 54 which certainly marks him as a player to watch for the future.

Damian came in at No 3 after big brother Julian had departed cheaply and struck 14 fours and two sixes en route to his splendid 113 before he finally fell to Stuart Harries in the late run chase.

He was joined in making runs by Phil Williams (12) and Mark Harris (15) before skipper Richard Harris came in at the low position for him of No 6 and stroked an unbeaten 37.

Matthew Davies claimed two wickets for Whitland, as did skipper Paul Webb with his off-spin but they were never able to keep Arthur and Co contained for any periods of length and paid the inevitable price.

Mark Harries, another talented teenager in the Cresselly camp, led the bowling with the scalps of Huw Davies (14) and Paul Davies, clearly with his mind on a forthcoming wedding as he failed to trouble the scorers! But Webb was as solid as ever with his 24 runs and Harries showed real class as he scored 54 before being adjudged LBW to the canny Richard Harris, who also removed Darren Rees in his 2 for 19 spell.

Daniel Griffiths scored 20 runs and in the final stages of the match Whitland were comfortably to hold out for the draw on a good batting track as Titch Davies and the veteran Colin John chipped in with 14 not out apiece in a final tally of 174 for 6 wickets.
