Twiggs run glut continues as Town win again

Haverfordwest (146 for 1) beat Llangwm (145 all out)

Umpires: Tony Scourfield and Brian Thomas Scorers: Jayne Cole and Jeffrey Saies

Superb innings by skippers Jonathan Twigg (Haverfordwest) and Mark Davies (Llangwm) were the batting highlights of this match at The Racecourse, but the visitors were always likely to suffer a reverse after being put on to bat on a damp pitch.

Llangwm slumped to 34 for 5 before Davies joined Henry Thomas in building a respectable total, with Davies smashing six sixes in an innings of 59 which was made from only 38 balls before he was finally caught on the long-on boundary by Clive Tucker off the bowling of Steve Phillips, as good an innings in adversity as one could wish to see.

Twigg, on the other hand, oozed confidence as his excellent unbeaten 88 took him to 351 runs in only four league matches, with an average of 175.5, although it has to be said that the Llangwm bowling certainly lacked the early venom injected by Paul Thomas, who had the early Llangwm batting fending off balls that were also moving off the seam.

Thomas trapped Ian Gow LBW, removed George Thomas and Gary Phillips, who was superbly caught in the slips by Phil Kirkby, and then had the key wicket of William Beresford in a 12-over stint which saw him bowl seven maidens and claim 4 for 17.

At the other end, Griffiths had Andrew Harries pouched by an even better slip catch from Steve Phillips and at 34 for 5 it seemed unlikely that Llangwm would reach 80.

But Jo-Jo Francis joined Henry Thomas in adding 26 as both escaped from dropped catches before Francis missed a full toss from Kirkby and was bowled.

Thomas stroked four lovely fours but was bowled by a beauty from Griffiths in his second spell - and it was left to Davies to rocket Llangwm to their final scoreline thanks to some quality stroke-play.

Haverfordwest were clearly intent on maintaining top spot in the league as Twigg and Andrew Phillips started well.

The pair put on 72 before Phillips nudged a ball from Andrew Harries into Beresfords gloves, having scored three boundaries in his 27.

With an eye on the weather, The Town pushed Paul Thomas up the order but it was Twigg who dominated some rather lack-lustre late bowling for Llangwm as he reached his 50 in 90 balls and then sped to 88 not out from 116 deliveries, with six fours.

Thomas was on 18 and clearly intent on a six to take maximum batting points but was denied as a wide from Mark Davies gave The Town the total they needed - and another win to keep them clear of the rest in the early chase for the title.
