Jenkins jolts sorry Stackpole

Johnston (152 for 5) beat Stackpole (72 all out)

Umpires: Glyn Pawlett and Dave Brandon Scorers: Brian Morgan and Chris Goodridge

Johnston skipper Steve Jenkins maintained his excellent start to his first campaign at the helm as he grabbed a five-wicket haul that helped his side to a convincing win over a makeshift Stackpole side who batted badly after Johnston had reached 152 for 5 in the worst of the conditions, managing only 72 all out as old war-horses Steve and Richard James helped cause them problems.

Johnstons total owed much to the batting form of John Summons, the opening bat reaching a fine 80, including eight fours and two sixes. He and Gary Stephens contributed exactly 100 after resisting some torrid early bowling from Alan Webster, who finished with 2 for 17 in 12 overs after conceding only seven runs in his first eight overs. Stephens flicked a rare six over square leg in his typically gritty 26 and Mike Davies chipped in with 17 - but with Anthony Canton also claiming 3 for 24 their final tally was a good one.

Just how good was quickly shown as Richard James conceded only 18 runs in 12 overs and Steve Jenkins sped in at the other end to break the back of the Stackpole innings as only Haydn Phillips managed double figures as they slumped to 34 for 6. Steve James claimed another impressive 3 for 12 in his nine overs and although Anthony Canton (17) and Richard Caley (12 not out) battled hard the inevitable happened and Jenkins and James grabbed late wickets to give Johnston a win by 80 runs - and maximum points into the bargain.

Burton (212 for 7) beat Narberth (211 for 7) Umpires: Les Hastings and Mike Harries Scorers: Stuart Sharp and Gwynneth Johns

There were runs galore at Oatfield Park despite the damp conditions as Narberth scored a huge 211 for 7 in their allotted 45 overs and Burton overtook them with three wickets and six balls to spare in this top of the table clash.

Narberth owed much to veteran opener Mike Johns, who had nine fours in an unbeaten 77, featuring in an impressive second-wicket stand of 83 with Ritchie Adams (nine fours in 44) before Adams was adjudged leg before to canny bowler Steve Jones.

Marc Hughes, Matthew Johns and Ian Hughes managed double figures in support - and with Johns carrying his bat, Mr Extras gave the Narberth final tally a boost with 24 runs.

If Mike Johns was the catalyst for Narberths score then Burton captain Chris Campbell did the same for Burton after Richard Hayman (12), James Scale (28) and David Murphy (19) had given him the platform.

Campbell looked in first-rate nick as he punished anything loose from the Narberth bowlers, plundering ten boundaries and two sixes in his 77 before he was finally fooled by the spin of Greg Morris.

Johnnie Griffiths supplied some necessary further momentum with three sixes in a chirpy 35 and although Morris and Richard Howell shared five wickets, Burton still had an ace up their sleeve in veteran all-rounder Steve Jones, who had a five in his 23 not out as he was joined by Kevin Roberts in steering Burton home in the 44th over of an entertaining tussle.

Saundersfoot (122 for 8) beat Carew 2nds (120 for 9) Umpires: John Williams and Barry Woods

Saundersfoot gained a morale-boosting win over a strong Carew Seconds, reaching their target for the loss of eight wickets in a match that was hard-fought but played in a good spirit throughout.

The Seasiders were boosted by former Kilgetty players Paul Mansbridge and Ian Poole after putting the opposition in to bat, with Mansbridge claiming 3 for 25, including the vital wicket of in-form opener Brian Hall for 64, who scored nine fours and a six before he was neatly stumped by Poole.

It was Pooles fourth victim as he had earlier stumped Gerald Hicks and Jeremy Griffiths off Chris Parker after catching teenage opener Ben Evans off Kevin Sykes.

No other Carew batsman managed double figures alongside Hall and with Parker claiming 4 for 35 the Villagers only managed 120 for 9 thanks to 16 extras.

Saundersfoot had the better of the conditions but were soon in trouble themselves as Poole departed for a duck and Mansbridge soon followed for only four runs.

But Barry Phillips (42) was strong and found willing allies in Nick Joseph (17) and Martin Williams (34 that included a six and three fours).

John Brown chipped in with 15 as Ceri Davies picked up three wickets and although there was a minor late scare when Dickie Parcell departed for a single and Chris Williams was run out for a duck, Chris Parker hit the winning runs with plenty of overs to spare and Saundersfoot were relieved to be home and dry by two wickets.
