Canton crushes lowly Llechryd

Anthony Canton again confirmed what a vital cog he has become in Stackpoles team as he helped them to the only result in the top two divisions over a Llechryd side which remains rooted to the foot of the table after arriving with only ten men and being hustled out by Canton and strike-bowling partner Alan Webster.

They were shot out for only 37 in 12.3 overs and then Canton smashed a six and four fours in a speedy 27 not out as Stackpole just beat the rain by finishing in 5.4 overs.

Such was the difficulty that Cantons pace posed on a damp wicket was the fact that he had three maidens in his six overs, with only three scoring shots as six of the Llechryd batsman departed for ducks, his 5 for 4 haul just reward for some pacy stuff as he was well supported by some steady fielding from his colleagues.

At the other end, Webster saw several fours slice through the slips so that his 4 for 30 analysis looks expensive in comparison, but he also bowled well so that only Ray Hasler was able to defy his veteran status to top score with 19, including four boundaries.

Ever-mindful of the worsening weather conditions, Stackpole asked their bowlers, both renowned big hitters, to also open the batting and they raced past 20 before Webster went for another big hit and was bowled by Edwards for 7.

But Canton drove four fours and a big six to hasten Stackpole to victory in under six overs - and a healthy 26 points while Llechryd had to settle for a solitary point.
