Revenge for Cresselly

Llangwm (88 all out) lost to Cresselly (140 all out) Umpires: Alan Hansen and Rob Bellerby Scorers: Jeff Saies and David Richards

Cresselly gained ample revenge for their midweek cup defeat against Llangwm as they made the return trip to Pill Parks for the league fixture between the two clubs and gained a victory that had home secretary Brian James fuming at the way his side had batted.

We were awful. It was back to the bad old days! said Jamer as his side slumped to 88 all out in response to Cressellys 140 all out.

And he was right because the innings lasted just 14 overs as everyone seemed intent on hitting the leather off the ball and got themselves out. The homesters were without several regulars but, that apart, it was a performance to forget for Llangwm.

Cresselly had to battle all the way for their final total after losing influential run-makers Julian Arthur, Richard Harris and Damian Arthur with only 14 runs on the board - but Phil Williams (13) and Lyn Richards (49) grafted away before Ryan Lewis gave the innings impetus with 41 made from only 30 balls as he lashed three sixes and two fours.

But no-one else was comfortable as Darren Brick bowled really well for Llangwm to earn figures of 7 for 17 in 10.4 overs, supported by Martyn Inward, 1 for 25 in 12 accurate overs.

But Cresselly also found a bowling hero in teenager James Caine, who removed Ian Gow for a duck and then shifted Inward, who had been promoted to opener, struck three fours in his first over faced against Lyn Richards and was out for 18 made from only 13 balls.

Andrew Harries failed to trouble the scorers as Lyn Richards trapped him and Robbie Neil - and Caine continued the carnage as he conceded 42 runs in only seven overs - but picked up six wickets in doing so.

Llangwm captain Mark Davies, batting surprisingly low at No 10, gave the total a slightly more respectable look as he plundered 39 runs, made up of five fours, three sixes and a single, before he was caught and bowled by Simon Jenkins - and a measure of the way that Llangwm got themselves out was the fact that there were only 12 runs in their tally that didnt come from boundary hits!
