Road repairs

PEMBROKESHIRE County Council has been given a £750,000 boost for road repairs and other projects.

Under the scheme, the county council will also get £30,000 to retain a child pedestrian training co-ordinator to work closely with schools to help educate pupils on the principles of road safety.

The cash is part of an additional £18 million package throughout Wales unveiled by National Assembly Minister for Environment Sue Essex last week.

A county council spokesman said: We welcome this extra money. And local Labour AM Richard Edwards said: The funding is for repairs over and above those already planned by the council.

The funding will allow the county council to invest in our local roads and help to bring them up to scratch for local motorists and other road users. The state of local roads is one of the most common concerns of local communities in this area and this latest package of support - which has been put together following feed back from local councils on the need for repairs in their area - shows that Welsh Labour is taking these local concerns seriously. Backlogs of repairs have built up over the years and I am pleased to see that this is now being addressed.

I also welcome the announcement that additional funding is being given to the council for a child pedestrian training co-ordinator, who will be able to continue the important task of teaching our children about road safety.
