Sefton shines for Carew

Lawrenny (150 all out) lost to Carew (202 for 6) Umpires: Bob Flute and Barry Wood Scorers: Malcolm Thomas and Martin Cole

A superb century by Ian Sefton helped Carew comfortably win their local derby against Lawrenny and move into joint first place in the table, his 106 coming out of the first 178 runs as Carew batted first and scored 202 for 6, a score that was always going to be too much for the homesters once they had slumped to 32 for 3 with key batsmen Chris Vincent, James Buckle and Steve Lewis departing to Carew opening bowlers James Owen and skipper Darren Thomas.

Sefton struck 11 fours and five big sixes as he took a toll on all the home bowlers except captain Rob Williams, who returned figures of 2 for 30 from his 12 overs as he finally had Sefton caught under the trees on the road side of the ground and bowled opposing captain Thomas for a duck.

Nick Scourfield helped Sefton put on 79 for the first wicket before he pushed a ball from Ian Jenkins into the hands of James Buckle when hed scored 18. Former Kilgetty cricketers Simon Wood and Phil Jones both reached double figures but it was Sefton who dominated matters as Carew finished up with their big score.

It assumed mammoth proportions soon after tea when Owen had Buckle hit a ball to Aled Davies at mid-off and trapped Steve Lewis leg before - while Thomas claimed the prized scalp of Vincent at the other end as Nick Scourfield took the catch.

Andrew Cole (Senior) and Ian Jenkins restored a little of the balance to events as they put on 32 runs but Tim Hicks bowled big Cole for 32 (four fours) and Steve Ive grabbed three wickets for just 20 runs in five overs to again confirm his potential.

Simon Wood chipped in with a wicket and Tim Hicks removed the dangerous Andrew Cole (Junior) for 24 in 12 balls after little Cole had smashed three sixes but then skied a ball Darren Thomas at cover seeking a fourth.

The final score was made a little more respectable as Lawrennys last pair of Rob Williams and John Fuller added 32 runs before Fuller was removed without having scored a run but blocking well in support of his captain, who finished unbeaten on 43, including seven fours and a big six. It left Carew with another maximum-points win in their quest for the top spot, while Lawrenny remain near the foot of the table after another struggle to find the form they showed last season.
